Richard Whetstone 82 of Hot Springs passed away Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital.

As per his wishes cremation has taken place and family services will be held this summer at the Evergreen Cemetery in Hot Springs.

Dick was born in Hot Springs on March 19, 1927 to Homer and Gertrude Whetstone. The family lived on a ranch near Oelrichs, SD. Dick attended school in Hot Springs. Following high school, he operated a garage/repair shop near Oelrichs. In 1964 he was married to Ruth Oakley, they lived near Hot Springs. Dick was a quiet, hardworking, and will be missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his brother Don Whetstone of Danville, IL, children Susan Fischer of Sonora, CA, Nancy Whetstone of Mills, WY, Diana Fischer of Burney, CA, stepchildren Ruth Samuelsen, Ellen Heston, and Gary Oakley all of Rapid City, Jan Myers of Cheyenne, WY, numerous grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Dick was preceded in death by his wife Ruth on December 29, 2007, parents, and brother Ken.
